Volunteers from the American Red Cross provided encouragement and assistance Friday morning to a family of eight whose home was damaged by a fire, authorities said.
A fire at 705 Grant Lane caused major damage, the Red Cross said. Eight people, three of them children, were unable to stay in the home. The Red Cross provided temporary shelter in a hotel, money to help replace food and clothing damaged by the fire, and referrals to partner agencies.
So far this year the Red Cross has assisted 608 victims of residential house fires.
