SUMMERVILLE--A living room fire left a family of three homeless on Sunday.

The displaced family includes a child. They are being assisted by the American Red Cross Carolina Lowcountry Chapter.

The blaze broke out Sunday afternoon on Miles-Jamison Road. Old Fort and Ashley River Fire departments responded. Firefighters contained the fire to the living room, said Old Fort Fire Capt. William Sullivan.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.

The Red Cross provided the family with temporary lodging and financial assistance to replace food and clothing lost in the fire, said Nancy Olsen, of the Red Cross. They also were given comfort kits of emergency supplies.

The Red Cross chapter has helped 773 people needing aid after a home fire so far this year in the seven-county region around Charleston. To support the Red Cross, contact 843-764-2323 or www.LowcountryRedCross.org.
