Loutricia lives with her four young children in a dilapidated home in North Charleston that has little or no insulation. She works a part-time evening shift at a local convenience store. Her mother and sister stay with her children while she’s at work.
During the night, one of the pipes in her home burst, flooding the entire ground floor. Most of her belongings and those of her children were completely destroyed.
When she contacted the Star Gospel Mission seeking assistance, she was assured that Good Cheer Fund resources would be made available to her to assist with the purchase of groceries and to enable her and her children to go to Wal-Mart to purchase new clothing. She will also be assisted with the finances necessary to get the broken water pipe repaired.
Contributions to The Post and Courier’s Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the Lowcountry since 1927. The six charitable organizations sharing the funds collected are the Lowcountry Food Bank, the Salvation Army, Star Gospel Mission, the Association for the Blind, Coastal Catholic Charities and Carolina Youth Development Center. Every cent of the money goes directly to the agencies, as there are no administrative costs involved.
Send tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. Donations also can be made in person or online at www.goodcheerfund.com.
