UNION -- The former court clerk in a county rocked by scandals has been charged with misconduct.

The State Law Enforcement Division said Wednesday that 32-year-old Brad Morris had been charged with embezzling more than $200,000.

Morris resigned Oct. 9, the same day officials said police were investigating accounts overseen by his office. A week earlier, the Union County supervisor and former tax assessor were charged with a number of crimes, including soliciting bribes, money laundering and allowing a county office to be used to store cocaine and other drugs.

Former Sheriff Howard Wells has been charged with lying to investigators.
