An inmate from the Coastal Pre-Release Center in North Charleston who escaped has been caught.
Michael Jones, 36, an inmate at the Coastal Pre-Release Center in North Charleston, was en route to a work assignment when he walked away from the employer’s custody, said Josh Gelinas, public information officer for the S.C. Department of Corrections.
Gelinas said he was caught Friday afternoon.
Jones disappeared at the Burger King near the intersection of Dorchester Road and Paramount Drive in North Charleston.
Gelinas said the owner of Genesis Hair Studio on Johns Island was taking Jones to the studio when he stopped at the restaurant and Jones vanished.
Jones was convicted of insurance fraud in Charleston and started serving a two-year sentence on Jan. 28. He now faces a charge of felony escape, which includes a sentence of one to 15 years.
