The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is investigating the assault of a 78-year-old man earlier this week.
Deputies were called at 2:05 p.m. Thursday to 993 Sheep Island Road where they found the resident who had been severely assaulted, the Sheriff's Office said.
The man's wife found him "bleeding in their bedroom," when she returned home from work, according to an incident report. The man had several bumps on his head and was conscious but didn't respond to his wife.
The man was transported to Trident Medical Center in North Charleston and was admitted into the intensive care unit in "extremely critical condition," the Sheriff's Office said. Investigators believe the incident may have been a robbery.
