Dorchester School District 2 will hold a dedication ceremony for its newest school, Joseph R. Pye Elementary School, at 3 p.m. today.

The school, at 9701 Patriot Blvd. in Ladson, opened in August and drew students from overcrowded Fort Dorchester, Oakbrook and Spann elementary schools. Principal Wanda Carroll Williams and Assistant Principal Tamara Diebold lead about 750 students.

It is named in honor of district Superintendent Joe Pye, who has been an educator for more than 40 years and was named South Carolina Superintendent of the Year in May.

The event will include a ceremony, ribbon cutting, reception and tours. The public is invited.
