The repaired World War II destroyer Laffey is expected to make its way down the Cooper River to Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum starting at 7 a.m. today.
The warship, which underwent $9.2 million in hull repairs, has been moored at Shipyard Creek in North Charleston since 2009. It is expected to pass under the Ravenel Bridge about 8 a.m. before being reberthed beside the World War II aircraft carrier Yorktown in time for high tide just before 9:30 a.m.
Spectators can watch the ship's return from the parking lot at Patriots Point. The parking fee will be waived.
Patriots Point will be closed the rest of the week.
