The annual Edisto Fish & Shag Fest, and Edisto Beach King Mackerel Tournament, are set for Sept. 2 and 3 at Edisto Island.

Second Nature, the Catalinas and a D.J. will provide dance music, and children can enjoy rides and games while families take in vendor booths and shag contests. The event, sponsored by Dockside Restaurant, the town of Edisto Beach and the Edisto Chamber of Commerce, will take place at Bay Creek Park, beside Edisto Marina.

Admission is $2, and those under age 10 are free. Bring lawn chairs, but smoking in the park, coolers and pets are not allowed.

D.J. Pat Patterson will provide music from 3 to 7 p.m. on Sept. 2 and 3.

On Sept 2, dancing is expected while Second Nature plays, from 7 to 11 p.m. A special shag contest for Edisto residents is set for 8 p.m.

Doors open at 10 a.m. Sept 3 for sponsor and vendor booths, arts and crafts, children's activities and a food drive for Edisto Food Pantry. Dancing is expected while the Catalinas play, 7-11 p.m. Shag competition for everyone will begin at 8 p.m.

Registration for the King Mackerel Tournament begins at 3 p.m. Sept. 2, followed by a captain's meeting at 7:30 p.m. and announcements at 8 p.m.

The tournament will be held Sept. 3, with weigh-ins 3-5 p.m., award presentations 6-6:30 p.m., and a shag contest at 6:30 p.m. The entry fee is $325, and pays one place for each 10 boats.

Junior and female awards, and small boat awards will be presented. All weighed-in fish will be donated to the Charleston Lowcountry Food Bank. For details:, or 803-622-7009.
