Kevin Lamar Howard

A 26-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the kidnapping and fatal shooting of his cousin last week on Wadmalaw Island.

Kevin Lamar Howard is charged with burglary, kidnapping and murder in the death of 24-year-old Adrian L. Lyles.

The two both lived in a house on Westmoreland Avenue on James Island, according to documents.

Witnesses told the Charleston County Sheriff's Office that two men hit Lyles Wednesday night, then forced him back into his apartment. The witness reported hearing an ensuing struggle inside the apartment, according to arrest affidavits.

Lyles' body was found by a passer-by early the next morning on Grans Avenue, a dirt-surfaced, private road on Wadmalaw Island. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, documents state.

The witness later identified Howard in a photo lineup, according to the documents.

Chief Deputy John Clark said Howard was arrested Sunday night during a routine traffic stop by the Summerville Police Department.

Clark said additional arrests were possible.
