A referendum on allowing Sunday beer and wine sales in rural Berkeley County is up for final approval today.
Berkeley County Council will hear comments for or against the November referendum before voting.
The specially called council meeting will follow committee meetings that start at 6 p.m. in the county administration building at 1003 Highway 52 in Moncks Corner (just south of East Main Street).
Sunday alcohol sales already are allowed in Goose Creek, Hanahan, Daniel Island, North Charleston and Summerville. The referendum would allow stores in the small towns and rural areas of Berkeley county to get a piece of the action.
Residents can buy beer and wine every day anywhere in Charleston and Dorchester counties. Charleston County, Dorchester County and most of the local major towns and cities allow Sunday sales.
