The Colleton County Coroner has released the name of a Round O teen who died in a traffic collision Sunday.
Wendell Nettles III, 16, of Coolers Dairy Road died of multiple injuries suffered in the 3 p.m. wreck on Chestnut Road, said Colleton County Coroner Richard Harvey. Initial reports from authorities that he was 17 were incorrect, Harvey said Monday.
Lance Cpl. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol said Nettles had a driver's license.
Authorities say he was driving home from work when his 2002 Pontiac ran off the right side of the road. Beres said Nettles overcorrected and swerved into the left lane where he struck a 1997 Ford Explorer heading the opposite direction. The driver of the Explorer was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Beres said Nettles was driving too fast for conditions.
