The Charleston County Coroner's Office on Tuesday identified a 6-year-old North Charleston boy who died after swimming in an apartment complex pool Monday.
G-Vonne Q. Washington of Kent Avenue was pronounced dead at the Medical University Hospital on Monday, according to Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin.
Martin said the cause of death appears to be drowning. An autopsy is scheduled for today.
North Charleston police responded to the pool at the St. Charles Place apartments on McMillan Avenue at 4:26 p.m. in response to a 911 call of a child drowning, according to an incident report.
The officer arrived and saw a young boy lying on the side of the pool surrounded by a crowd. One person was attempting CPR, the report said.
Charleston County EMS arrived on the scene and took over the lifesaving effort before taking the child to the hospital, where he later died.
