Charleston police have identified a suspect in a shooting that wounded a man in West Ashley about two weeks ago.

Warrants obtained three days after the March 16 shooting charge 20-year-old David Lenard Capers with assault and battery with intent to kill and use of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

The incident left 18-year-old Larry Jackson with a gunshot wound to the right side of his back, according to a police report. Police met with Jackson behind a convenience store on Ashley River Road near the St. Andrews Garden Apartments minutes afterward. He was treated at Medical University Hospital and released with non-life-threatening wounds.

Arrest affidavits accuse Capers of shooting a .380-caliber or 9 mm pistol at Jackson about seven times as Jackson walked in front of a home on Locksley Drive. Investigators do not think Jackson was the intended target, according to the affidavits.

Anyone with information about Capers' whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111 or Charleston police at 577-7434.
