GOOSE CREEK -- Bushy Park Road was closed to traffic Monday after a collision involving a van and an 18-wheeler carrying some kind of hazardous material, said Cpl. Paul Brouthers of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
There apparently were no injuries in the wreck, but there was a possibility that one of the vehicles involved was carrying a flammable, hazardous material, Brouthers said.
Troopers were dispatched to the landing at 5:38 p.m. Reports indicated that the road was closed for at least four hours.
Hazardous materials units from several area fire departments were on the scene. The Goose Creek Rural Fire Department had command of the incident.
Authorities also were directing boats away from the landing. Many were stranded on the water, unable to dock their boats and load them onto to trailers. Boaters also said they were being asked to refrain from using their radios.
