On Fridays, 9-year-old Jonathan gathers leftover crackers, apples and snacks from the lunch trays of his classmates as he walks around the lunchroom asking, 'Are you going to eat that?'
Afterward, Jonathan doesn't join in the playground games with his friends because he's afraid of losing the food he has stuffed in his pockets. When asked why he is collecting food, he replies, 'So I have something to eat over the weekend.'
Your donations to the Good Cheer Fund can help local agencies alleviate some of the widespread hunger in the Lowcountry, especially during this holiday season, by making sure our neighbors have nutritious food seven days a week.
Generous contributions to the Good Cheer Fund have helped the less fortunate in the community since 1927. Six charitable organizations share the funds collected: Lowcountry Food Bank, Star Gospel Mission, Salvation Army, Carolina Youth Development Center, Association for the Blind and Catholic Charities. Every penny of the money goes to these agencies as there are no administrative costs involved.
Send your tax-deductible contributions to the Good Cheer Fund, c/o The Post and Courier, 134 Columbus St., Charleston, SC 29403-4800. Donations also may be made in person or online at www.goodcheerfund.com.
