City planning director Tim Keane leaving for job in Atlanta

Tim Keane, the city of Charleston’s Director of Planning, Preservation and Sustainability, will be leaving the city at the end of June for a job with the city of Atlanta.

In a press release Thursday, Charleston Mayor Joe Riley said Keane will work with Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed as the city’s new Commissioner of Planning and Community Development.

Keane made “extraordinary positive impacts on Charleston and its neighborhoods,” Riley said.

Yvonne Fortenberry, the city’s current deputy director of planning, will be serve as director after Keane leaves, Riley said,

The city already has begun a national search for his replacement utilizing the resources of the American Planning Association, Riley said. “I am certain we will receive many outstanding applicants. I look forward to filling the position as soon as possible as we have a lot to do this year.”
