A shooting on Charleston's East Side wounded a 27-year-old man early Wednesday, police said.
Officers responded to a call at 12:55 a.m. about gunshots and a wounded man at 36 America St. They found Darryl O. Royal of North Charleston in the stairwell of a home near South Street with shots to his stomach and left leg.
He said he had been "shot up the street by the store" but could not provide details, a police report said. Public Information Officer Charles Francis said the wounds do not appear life-threatening.
A gunfire detection system recorded five shots in the area of 63 Columbus St., several blocks away, the report said. Police had no suspect late Wednesday.
