A man recently released by Charleston police is now wanted for stealing a GPS.

Matthew Dylan Brown, 21, is wanted for grand larceny, receiving stolen goods and larceny by false pretense in connection with multiple thefts from motor vehicles, police spokesman Charles Francis said.

Brown was arrested Sunday after police found him sitting inside a commercial truck parked on Morrison Drive with the engine running and dash lights on, an incident report states.

Police were searching the area after receiving reports of a man matching Brown’s description causing a disturbance.

Brown stepped out of the truck when police arrived, and appeared to be drunk, the report states.

When asked what he was doing in the truck, Brown told police he found the vehicle that way.

Brown was initially charged with breaking and entering a motor vehicle and released, but Francis said further investigations determined that Brown was attempting to steal the truck.

Police say Brown is now a suspect in another case after he pawned a GPS from a vehicle parked on Judith Street.

A woman told police that she found her vehicle’s window shattered, and her $150 sunglasses and $150 GPS were missing.

Brown is currently on probation for grand larceny in Florida.

Anyone with information on Brown’s whereabouts can call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111 or Charleston police at 577-7434.
