Human remains discovered in a marsh area on The Citadel's campus Wednesday could be connected to a severed human foot that was found at the Charleston City Marina last week, authorities say.

Charleston Police Harbor Patrol and Charleston County Charleston County Sheriff’s Deputies searched a marsh starting at 10:30 a.m., said Charles Francis, a police spokesman. What appeared to be skeletal human remains were discovered about an hour later.

"The search was being done in reference to a human right foot found May 1, 2017, encased in an Adidas shoe at the Charleston City Marina," Francis said.

Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten said further information about the remains likely would not be available until Thursday.
