Charleston Senior Police Officer Anthony Cretella received an award this week that recognized his service as a role model and mentor.
Cretella was given the Case-Hartmann Foundation Public Servant Leadership Award.
Last year, Cretella became involved with the Healthy Play Program, which gives under-privileged children a chance to play whiffle ball twice a week during the summer at the West Ashley Miracle League Field. The program teaches good sportsmanship and provides positive interactions with police.
Cretella also participated in a bocce ball fundraiser that benefited the Special Olympics and recently joined the city’s Lunch Buddy Program. He teaches classes on Taser use and other tactics for police officers.
