Charleston Fire Department announces hiring of new deputy chief

The Charleston Fire Department has filled a newly created position with Pat Wilson, who was appointed deputy fire chief of planning and professional development. Wilson will be responsible for the training, maintenance and logistics divisions, accreditation oversight, recruitment and professional development.

“My goal is to ensure that all members of the Charleston Fire Department have an opportunity for career success,” Wilson said in a press release. “The professional development program will be designed to take an individual’s training and experiences, coupled with a strong mentoring network, and provide opportunities to develop their abilities, skills, and leadership potential.

“This will be done through an unwavering commitment and support to the members of the Charleston Fire Department.”

Chief Karen Brack said Wilson has a strong training and development background, budgetary experience, personnel management and operations.

He started with the department on April 8.
