FLORENCE — Two men have been charged in the shooting death of a Florida man outside a hotel in South Carolina.

WPDE-TV in Florence reported that 25-year-old Sylvester Davis and 16-year-old Deandre Scott were arrested Tuesday and charged with murder. Both men are from Darlington.

Sheriff's Capt. Brett Camp said 83-year-old Clair Chaffin of Archer, Fla., was shot while packing his car at a hotel near Interstate 95 about 7 a.m. Monday. Florence County Coroner M.G. Matthews said Chaffin died from a single gunshot wound.

Investigators think Chaffin was shot after being confronted during an attempted armed robbery. Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott said the incident may be linked to a robbery in Richland early Sunday.

It was not immediately clear if Davis or Scott had attorneys.
