A man was stabbed in the leg Thursday night after an attacker accused him of having an affair with his wife, according to the North Charleston Police Department.

The victim, 30-year-old Fordetreius Deon-Washington Smith, told officers that he was standing at Apache Street and Cosgrove Avenue around 9:30 p.m. when a black Chrysler 300 stopped at the corner.

A man known to the victim as "Reese" jumped out and started yelling that Smith had been sleeping with his wife, according to an incident report. Denying the allegation, Smith fought with the assailant and was stabbed as they struggled on the ground.

Smith pushed the knife-wielding man off him, and the suspect left in the Chrysler. He was described as between 20 and 30 years old and about 160 pounds.

Officers reported that Smith suffered a 4-inch stab wound to his leg and was taken to Medical University Hospital.
