A North Charleston man awakened early Wednesday to find two men rifling through his belongings. When the confrontation was over, one of the men had been shot in the buttocks.

The 26-year-old resident awakened just after midnight and went downstairs when he saw the men in his living room, looking under his couch. One of the men pointed a handgun at him and told him to get down on the floor, which he did, according to a police report.

As the burglars ransacked the apartment at the Cedar Grove Apartments on Evangeline Drive, they found the resident's 9 mm gun, and then the victim heard gunfire and ran out the front door, the report states. More gunfire followed, and the burglars ran.

Police arrived and found Keyavonnie V. Jennings, in the bed of a pickup truck with a bullet wound to his left buttock, the report states.

Jennings, 26, of Walterboro, is charged with armed robbery, burglary and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, said Spencer Pryor, police public information officer. It was not clear how he was shot or who the other suspect was.
