MeadWestvaco gives C of C grant

Environmental science gets a deeper pool to plumb at the College of Charleston, thanks to a grant from MeadWestvaco.

The timber and packaging company has given the college $25,000 to develop a collection of research materials at its libraries to support a program on ecosystems and ecological habitats that is one of the fastest-growing majors at the college, according to a news release by the college Media Relations relations department.

The money will pay for an emerging technology data base, issue discussions, books and journals, said George Benson, college president. Ken Seeger, MeadWestvaco Community Development and Land Management president, said the college offers one of the pre-eminent environmental studies programs of its kind in the Southeast.

"We are proud to support the program," Seeger said in the release.
