Bridge Run design judges bypass 'People's Choice'

Despite receiving 800 of 5,000 votes cast in the second "People's Choice" voting for the Cooper River Bridge Run design, judges did not select the image because it was "too busy."

When it came to selecting the 2015 Cooper River Bridge Run design, the "People's Choice" was not the judge's choice.

For the second year, the Bridge Run sought the opinion of the public via online voting. From Saturday to Tuesday, about 5,000 votes were cast. The design with the most votes, about 800, was one that dared to be different: retro and black-and-white.

But on Wednesday evening, most of the 60 people gathered for the final judging disagreed with the online voters, or the People's Choice. Most people at the judging described the design as "too busy" that wouldn't translate well to T-shirts, posters, billboards and promotional publications.

They selected another design, which will be officially unveiled on Aug. 20. The 38th annual Cooper River Bridge Run will be March 28.
