A body was discovered Thursday night in a murky pond behind a West Ashley church and could be linked to a vehicle found burning there Saturday afternoon, authorities said.
Sheriff Al Cannon said the vehicle was found burning about 5:30 p.m. Saturday behind St. Andrews Presbyterian Church on Bear Swamp Road. He said the vehicle was burned beyond recognition.
Some information that investigators learned sent them back to the church on Thursday with a cadaver dog, which hit on the spot where the vehicle burned and at the edge of an adjacent pond. Divers went into the water about 7:30 p.m., and soon afterward, found a body floating in the water.
Cannon said they couldn't determine the gender of the dead person because of the condition of the body.
