The 23rd annual Town of Mount Pleasant Blessing of the Fleet and Seafood Festival has been rescheduled for May 16.

The festival, which had been postponed because of inclement weather, will take place from noon to 6 p.m. at Memorial Waterfront Park.

The event will not include the annual parade of shrimp boats because officials had a private blessing on April 25 at the Geechee Dock. Instead, there will be a memorial and wreath blessing ceremony at 2 p.m. on the main stage to honor the memory of seafaring lives lost during the year.

Other activities include shag and shrimp-eating contests, a juried craft show, Sweetgrass basket displays, children's activities and live music by the East Coast Party Band and DJ Jim Bowers.

Overflow parking and free shuttles to Memorial Waterfront Park will be available at Patriots Point Soccer Complex. A free shuttle will run from the Farmers Market parking lot on Simmons Street to the Memorial Waterfront Park beginning at 11:30 am.

Admission and on-site parking are free. For more information, contact Su McManus-Frost at 884-8517 or go to
