Berkeley County will begin its third annual community reading program "Berkeley Reads" in March.
In the Friends of the Berkeley County Library-sponsored program, the county library system and county schools encourage the community to read one or more of the same books at the same time and to participate in special events and book discussions.
This year's theme is pirates, and the Berkeley Reads committee has chosen three books for the public to read.
The books are "Edward and the Pirates" by David McPhail, an illustrated book for children ages 4-8; "Peter and the Starcatchers" by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson for ages 10 and older, and a prequel to the classic "Peter Pan"; and "Pirate Latitudes" by Michael Crichton, a current best-seller, recently published from a complete manuscript found after Crichton's death.
The Friends of the Library will have copies of all three books available for sale and checkout at any Berkeley County Library branch.
