GOOSE CREEK -- Authorities were searching late Monday for a man who carjacked a Volkswagen Beetle in lower Berkeley County.

The white VW was last seen headed on College Park Road toward Interstate 26, city police Sgt. Thomas Hill said.

Hill said the VW had pulled up to a store parking lot at Plantation Point about 9:30 p.m., with two people in the car, when a man with a knife approached. The stranger showed those in the car the knife and "asked them to get out of the vehicle and they did, and the subject took off," Hill said.

The carjacker was described as white, in his 20s, 6 feet, 1 inch to 6 feet, 2 inches tall and wearing a beanie cap and a military jacket, Hill said.

Anyone with information about the carjacking or the suspect should call police at 863-5200, or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111, police said.
