Tron Y. Grant, the girls basketball coach at Ashley Ridge High School, was put on paid administrative leave Monday in light of allegations he had sex with a teenage student when Grant worked at another school in 2006.

Charleston County deputies Tuesday said Grant is facing one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor after they said he twice had sex with a 15-year-old girl in 2006 while she attended Baptist Hill High School near Hollywood.

At the time, Grant, now 38, of St. Ives Road in North Charleston, was a student concern specialist at the school, according to an arrest affidavit.

Dorchester County School District 2 spokeswoman Pat Raynor said Tuesday that Grant had been removed from his position and placed on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

The woman who accused Grant gave a statement to deputies Feb. 2 and told investigators Grant took advantage of her while she was in a vulnerable situation and had sex with her in his car and at his residence, the affidavit stated.

Authorities said at least one person corroborated the account given to law enforcement. Grant was arrested Monday and released Tuesday after posting $25,000 bail, jail records show.
