MOUNT PLEASANT -- A woman armed with a handgun robbed a bank Tuesday morning, police said.

Town police responded about 10:30 a.m. to the Palmetto Heritage Bank & Trust at 3102 U.S. Highway 17.

Employees said a black, heavyset female, between 5-foot-2 and 5-foot-7, robbed the bank and took off with an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was hurt.

She wore all-black clothing with a black apron, a khaki-colored hat and black, round glasses, according to Capt. Stan Gragg.

Four area schools all went on temporary administrative lockdown. Wando High, Cario Middle, Laurel Hill Primary and Pinckney Elementary schools were taken off lockdown shortly after, Charleston County School District spokesman Jason Sakran said.

A fifth Mount Pleasant school, Moultrie Middle, also was locked down briefly Tuesday morning following an unrelated bomb threat about 10 a.m., Sakran said.
