Moonlight Mixer: Dance the night away under the stars at the Folly Beach Fishing Pier with the popular Moonlight Mixers. On July 31 and Aug. 14, 7-11 p.m., local DJ Rob Duren will spin oldies and beach music. Advance tickets are $10 and $8 for Charleston County residents. If available, tickets purchased on-site are $10. No refunds or exchanges. Call or visit the Web site for additional mixer dates.

Summer Entertainment Series: Shows begin at 10 a.m., and seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Shows are best suited for ages 3-12. Fee: $5/$4 Charleston County resident discount/$5 walk-in. $3 per child for groups of 15 or more with chaperon admitted for free. Advance registration is suggested for groups in order to receive discounted rate, and payment is due at registration. Call for information or to register.

Reggae Concert Series: On Aug. 8, Wannamaker County Park hosts reggae band Da Gullah Rootz. On Aug. 22, James Island County Park will host reggae band Mystic Vibrations. Bring a chair or blanket and groove to the island tunes. Food, beverage and souvenirs will be available for purchase. Outside alcohol and coolers are prohibited. No advance tickets will be sold. Gates open at 7:30 p.m., music begins at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $8 or 5 Greenbax and free for children 12 and under and Gold Pass Holders.

Free Skin Screenings: Charleston County Parks have partnered with MUSC to offer free skin cancer screenings this summer. Dermatologists on the MUSC Mobile Health Unit, a fully equipped doctor's office on wheels, will be at Splash Zone Waterpark in James Island County Park 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Aug. 8. Shaggin' on the Cooper: Dance the night away under the stars Aug. 8 at the new Mount Pleasant Pier. The Coppertones, a formally dressed six-piece party band, is sure to keep you dancing all night long. Gates open at 7:30 p.m. and music starts at 8:30 p.m. Beverages are available for purchase on-site. Only 800 tickets will be sold for this event. August Programs

Early Morning Bird Walks at Caw Caw: The walk through distinct habitats allows participants to discuss birds, butterflies and other organisms. Preregistration is encouraged, but walk-ins are welcome. Meets at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. $5/free for Gold Pass members. 8:30 a.m.-noon Aug. 1, 5, 8.

Introduction to Climbing: Introduction to Belaying. This three-hour class will teach fundamentals of belaying. Participants will be prepared to take a belay test upon their next visit to the Climbing Wall. Pre-registration required. Meets at James Island County Park. Ages 14 and up. Parent & Child Trips: Edisto River Canoeing. Bring Mom or Dad for a day of fun on the Edisto River. Learn basic canoe strokes before embarking on your float down river. A registered and paid chaperon is required for participants ages 16 and under. Pre-registration required. Meets at the CCPRC Headquarters. Ages 8 and up. Canoeing At Caw Caw: Heritage to Habitat Canoe Tour. Enjoy an interpretive canoe trip and travel back to the age of rice as group paddles through rice fields and canals that now serve as one of the richest wildlife habitats in the Lowcountry. Pre-registration required. Meets at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. Ages 9 and up. Fee is $15/$12 Charleston County resident discount. 9-11:30 a.m. Aug. 1.

Triathlon Series: The Charleston Triathlon Club presents the 19th annual Sprint Triathlon Series. This year's series will consist of four triathlons and will include a .3-mile swim, a 13-mile bike ride and a 5K run. To register, contact Paul King at 881-8872. 7 a.m.-noon Aug. 2.

Local Sea Kayak Trips: Intermediate Capers Island Kayak Trip. Join group for an intermediate sea kayak adventure to Capers Island. After Work Sea Kayak Tours: Sunset Harbor Kayak Tour. Close out your workday with a relaxing tour and a watery view of the Charleston skyline. Group will paddle from Sunrise Park on James Island, past the Battery, to home port at the Wappoo Cut boat landing. Pre-registration required. Meets at an off-site location. Ages 16 and up. Canoeing At Caw Caw: Caw Caw Sunset/Moonrise Paddle. Enjoy an interpretive paddle at dusk. Witness the sun as it slips below the trees of Caw Caw Swamp and watch the moonrise over Tea Farm Creek. A registered and paid chaperon is required for participants ages 15 and under. Pre-registration required. Meets at Caw Caw Interpretive Center. Ages 9 and up. Sea Kayak Instructional Classes: ACA Essentials of Kayak Touring. This course is designed to teach beginners to paddle sea kayaks safely and enjoyably on lakes, calm protected ocean environments and other flat-water settings. Boats, equipment, safety, and basic strokes and rescues will be covered. Pre-registration required. Meets at James Island County Park. Ages 16 and up.
