The S.C. Department of Revenue has designated the weekend of Friday, Aug. 5 to Sunday, Aug. 7 as a sales tax holiday.
The sales tax holiday exempts a number of items from the 6 percent state sales and use tax, including clothing, clothing accessories, shoes, school supplies, computers, printers, blankets, bedspreads and linens, bath cloths, bath towels, bath rugs and mats, shower curtains, pillows and pillow cases, and more.
The sales tax holiday does not apply to sales of jewelry, cosmetics, eyewear, wallets, watches, rental of clothing or shoes, furniture, items for use in a business or items placed on layaway. The holiday begins that Friday at 12:01 a.m. and ends Sunday at midnight. For more information on the tax holiday, visit www.sctax.org.
