CONWAY — Make it three Maton brothers in professional baseball.

Coastal Carolina right-handed pitcher Jacob Maton signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Texas Rangers on July 22.

Maton’s brothers, right-handed pitcher Phil and infielder Nick, play for the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies organization, respectively.

Maton did not take the mound in his first two years as a Chanticleer in 2019 and 2020 due to an injury and the COVID-19 pandemic, but made up for it the last two seasons.

In 2022, the Chatham, Ill., native came out of the bullpen all season long for the Chants, going 1-1 with three saves and a 3.41 ERA over a team-high 25 appearances on the bump. He struck out 30 batters over 29.0 innings pitched and did not allow an earned run over his first 15.1 innings on the season.

Over his two years on the mound for CCU, Maton was 3-4 with three saves and a 5.24 ERA over 40 appearances, which included nine starts in 2021. He fanned 75 batters over 77.1 innings pitched.

Maton is the fourth Chant to sign with or be drafted by an MLB team in July, as infielder Eric Brown Jr. was drafted in the first round of the MLB Draft by the Milwaukee Brewers, the first Chant to ever be selected in the first round of the draft, and pitchers Michael Knorr and Reid VanScoter were picked by the Astros and Seattle Mariners, respectively.
