A man accused of stabbing to death a Bluffton woman and leaving her body on the side of a rural dirt road in Charleston County is not expected to face a murder charge here for at least another two weeks.

Charleston County sheriff's deputies charged Darold Drayton, 32, with murder in the death of Alexis Lukaitis. He must first face charges of failure to register as a sex offender and simple possession of marijuana in Beaufort County before he can be brought to Charleston, Maj. John Clark said.

Clark said that's expected to take at least two weeks.

Lukaitis was found on the side of Old Jacksonboro Road on Aug. 9. The 27-year-old mother of twin boys had been stabbed in the chest and throat, authorities said.

Authorities say they believe Lukaitis drove Drayton to Charleston County to get prescription drugs when he stabbed her, stuffed her body into a trunk and then dumped the body onto the side of the road before returning to Beaufort County.

Drayton was charged in Lukaitis' death on Thursday, a day after Beaufort County authorities found him with cuts and scratches on his body and a deep slice wound to his right index finger. An affidavit said investigators found blood-stained evidence from Lukaitis' car behind the Bluffton house of one of Drayton's cousins, who implicated Drayton in the crime.
