No. 6 Bishops power past No. 18 Cavs in season opener
Bishop England opened its boys lacrosse season with a 7-2 win over Christ Church Saturday at Jack Cantey Stadium on Daniel Island.
The Bishops, ranked sixth in the state, limited the No. 18 Cavaliers to just 13 shots on goal. Bishops senior goalkeeper Joe LoPriore rejected 11 of the Cavaliers’ attempts.
Junior attack Dennis Treasurer led the Bishops offense with three goals.
James Morton opened scoring for Christ Church with an unassisted goal with 2:45 left in the first quarter. Treasurer answered 20 seconds later off a feed from junior midfielder Eddie Marinaro.
Bishop England dominated possession most of the match as senior captain Drew Owens won 10 of 11 faceoffs. Junior midfielder Michael Long finished with two goals and an assist. Junior attack Jack Jennings tallied his first goal of the season, as did freshman midfielder Watson Mcloud in his varsity debut. Ryan Murphy and John Turisk both added an assist.
Bishop England will next host on Nansemond-Suffolk Academy (Va.) Friday on Daniel Island.
