Bishops blast Hawks, Sharks roll, Horses stumble


Bishop England generated 395 yards of offense in a 35-3 win over Hanahan in the Region 7-AAA opener for the longtime rivals.

Bishops senior quarterback Cam Costa threw for 289 yards and two scores, completing 74% of his 23 attempts. Costa connected with Jarren McCoy four times for 103 yards and a touchdown. He found Eddie Marinaro five times for 99 yards and a score.

Bishop England led 14-3 at halftime as Marinaro pulled in a 30-yard touchdown catch in the first quarter and McCoy caught a 41-yard score in the second. Michael Long ran in a pair of touchdowns in the second half — from 4 yards out in the third and 2 yards in the fourth — and Marinaro tacked on a 1-yard score.

The Bishops defense limited Hanahan to 216 total yards, just 59 on the ground. Hanahan quarterback Mac Blakeney went 12-20 for 148 yards and an interception. Josh Shaw had seven carries for 46 yards, while Randy Scott had seven catches for 117 yards. Scott also made the interception against Costa for the Hawks.

Bishop England (3-2, 1-0) travels to Waccamaw (5-1, 1-0) on Friday. Hanahan (0-5, 0-1) will host Academic Magnet.

Oceanside 61, North Charleston 6

Running back Keegan Williams had four rushing touchdowns to lead Oceanside Collegiate (6-0, 1-0) to a 61-6 victory over North Charleston (2-3, 0-1) Friday night.

Williams led the Landsharks with 124 rushing yards on 11 attempts. King Deloney added 46 yards and a score on just three carries. Quarterback Sean Cooney went 6-13 for 60 yards and threw a 9-yard touchdown pass to Walker Rhue.

Oceanside led 54-0 at halftime.

The Landsharks defense surrendered just 48 total yards and forced six turnovers with two turnovers on downs. Joey Bolyston and Jordan Jackson each had a 31-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown. Bolyston also had a safety for the Landsharks.

Timberland 48, Philip Simmons 14

Jamari Nelson rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown to help give Timberland (4-1) a 48-14 win over Philip Simmons (1-5) Friday night.

Matt Williamson rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown for the Wolves, and Jaleen Richardson scored twice.

Peyton Woolridge led Philip Simmons with a rushing and a passing touchdown on 107 yards of total offense, throwing for 52 and running for 58.

Timberland’s Omari Jenkins blocked a punt and Jamaal Williams returned it for a touchdown. Sam Moultrie returned an interception for a touchdown.
