The Mount Pleasant Chamber of Commerce (MPCC) held their first responder recognition a little differently for the month of May.

Instead of honoring a single fireman or police officer at their monthly luncheon at the Omar Shrine, they held a recognition to honor Mount Pleasant Police Department (MPPD) and Fire Department (MPFD) on the front steps of town hall on May 13.

MPCC President Shane Griffin led the ceremony by thanking the police and fire departments for their work throughout COVID-19. The MPCC President-Elect, Eddie Phipps introduced MPPD Chief Carl Ritchie and MPFD Chief Mike Mixon allowing them each to speak about their departments' work to keep the town safe throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

MPFD's Deputy Craig Oliverius and Chief Shaun Simpson and MPPD's Lt. Pat Carter, Ashley Croy and John Demarize were all present for the recognition.

Mayor Will Haynie, Town Administrator Eric DeMoura, Assistant Town Administrator Christiane Farrell and councilmembers Gary Santos and Brenda Corley attended on behalf of the town. Several MPCC board members were also present for the recognition.
