Wando High School students Morgan Skelley, Amelia Wingard, Olivia Monty, Spencer Shellnutt, Morgan Monty, Jeffrey Williams, Hunter Kane, Emily Caron, Marissa Honig and Derek Burbage will join other outstanding musicians from across the nation as part of Music for All’s 2015 Honor Orchestra of America and Honor Band of America and Honor Jazz Band of America.
These students were selected from numerous applicants from across the nation for membership in these prestigious honor ensembles.
“To be selected for membership in these elite national ensembles is a great achievement and honor,” says Eric Martin, Music for All president and CEO. “The 2015 Honor Orchestra and Band members are ambassadors of America’s music programs, as well as their states, schools and communities.”
All of these students are members of the Wando High School Symphonic Band, under the direction of Bobby Lambert, Lanie Radecke and Jeff Handel.
The Honor Orchestra of America is made up of students from 22 states representing 51 high schools. Franz Anton Krager, director of orchestras and professor of conducting from the University of Houston Moores School of Music, will be conducting the concert on March 13 and 14 in the Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis, Indiana, along with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
The Honor Band of America is made up of students from 23 states representing 65 high schools. Kevin Sedatole, professor of music from Michigan State University, will conduct the band in concert on March 14 at Clowes Memorial Hall located on the campus of Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The Honor Jazz Band of America will be conducted by Shelly Barg, the dean of the Phillip and Patricia Frost School of Music at the University of Miami.
