Town of Mount Pleasant Emergency Manager Amanda Knight states that the Town strongly advises all citizens to evacuate Wednesday.

In a meeting at the Mount Pleasant Emergency Operations Center Wednesday morning, Emergency Manager Amanda Knight stated that the Town is sending a strong message for all citizens to evacuate on Wednesday. Hurricane Florence is currently a category 4 hurricane. Tropical force winds could start early Thursday morning based on the Hurricane National Weather Services and when that happens local officials will shut down bridges to traffic and citizens will not be able to leave.

The Town of Mount Pleasant is fully activated and has been working since last week and is set for full execution of their emergency plan. The Town urges citizens that staying is putting yourself at risk. Emergency personnel may not be able to get to you during the hurricane. And the length of this storm should be considered. There may be storm conditions for four or five days.

Important Notes when you evacuate:

  1. When evacuating turn your water off at the street and turn off power to the hot water heater
  2. Take videos and photos of your property and house for insurance purposes
  3. Take all important papers with you
  4. Take all medications with you
  5. You can place important items you cannot take with you in the dishwasher which should be water proof’
