Civilian seriously injured in crash involving a Charleston County deputy

A Charleston County sheriff’s deputy was involved in a traffic collision with a civilian’s vehicle on Old Towne Road near North Hillside Drive.

Around 6 a.m. on May 21, a Charleston County sheriff’s deputy driving a county vehicle was involved in a traffic collision with a civilian’s vehicle on Old Towne Road near North Hillside Drive. The civilian driver suffered serious injuries. The deputy suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded to the collision.

On June 23, Charleston County Sheriff’s Office announced that at the conclusion of an internal investigation into the May 21 fatal collision on Old Towne Road, Deputy Jason Barry was found in violation of department policies and terminated from the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office earlier today. Barry has been employed with the Sheriff’s Office since September 2019.
