SANTEE — Motorists driving north on Interstate 95 in South Carolina can expect heavy traffic congestion for the next two months.
The state Department of Transportation begins work Monday on repairs to the northbound I-95 bridge over Lake Marion at Santee. Work will continue around the clock through mid-November. And during that time the interstate is limited to one lane with a speed limit of 45 mph.
The concrete deck on the bridge built more than 40 years ago is deteriorating.
Overweight and wide trucks are being detoured around the work site.
The Department of Transportation says motorists should expect heavy congestion, especially on weekends. I-95 is the main north-south route on the East Coast linking Maine and Miami.
