SUMMERVILLE — Police say a man beat a 4-year-old girl with an extension cord and that his girlfriend, the child’s mother, did nothing about it.
Keith Kasaun Williams, 31, and Jordan Suzanne Reynolds, 20, of Summerville, were charged with unlawful conduct toward a child. The incident happened between Tuesday and Wednesday, according to an affidavit.
Williams told the girl’s babysitter that he beat the girl with an extension cord because she dropped her 5-month-old sibling, according to a police report.
Doctors found “countless bruises” on the girl’s back, legs, chest, arms and buttocks. The 4-year-old told authorities that Williams struck her while her mother was at work. The girl said her mother examined the bruises later but didn’t do anything about it, according to an affidavit.
Her siblings were not hurt, the report said.
The S.C. Department of Social Services has taken the child and her siblings into emergency protective custody, according to the report.
Williams is being held at the Dorchester County Detention Center on $150,000 bail. Reynolds’ bail is set for $75,000.
