Memorial planned for missing Citadel cadet

Joshua Edwards

Citadel President John Rosa announced plans for a memorial on Thursday to pay homage to a cadet who has been missing since last week.

At an assembly in McAlister Field House, Rosa told cadets that senior Joshua Edwards disappeared Thursday after attending a speech at the school. Edwards sent instructions to friends to check his computer. "On there was a very compelling case of a young man who was very upset and very distraught," Rosa said.

A car belonging to the 21-year-old chemistry major from Greer was found Friday on East Ashley Avenue on Folly Beach, but a large search failed to find Edwards.

Rosa said the school is still actively searching for Edwards, but his family has now requested that a memorial service be held for him on Thursday. The school will comply with that request, Rosa said. Further details have not been announced.

Rosa urged cadets to seek help if they are having trouble dealing with Edwards' disappearance.
