SUMMERVILLE — Dorchester County authorities are investigating the death of a 51-year-old man who was found dead at a Summerville-area gun club this morning.
Dorchester County sheriff's deputies responded to the Palmetto Gun Club, just off S.C. Highway 61, about 7 a.m.
Coroner Chris Nisbet said the man's body was found on the ground by one of the shooting huts with what appears to be a single gunshot wound to his upper right chest.
An autopsy has been set.
Maj. John Garrison said they're still investigating what happened but that they are not looking for any suspects and no one is in custody.
Nisbet said the man, whose name has not been released, was a member of the gun club and was apparently out at the site since Wednesday evening for target practice. The man was reportedly an avid gun collector and experienced shooter, Nisbet said.
