Police say a St. Stephen man led them on a chase through North Charleston late Monday night before crashing his truck into a ditch.

Events unfolded at 11 p.m. Monday when a North Charleston Police officer attempted to pull over a blue Ford Ranger for ignoring a red light on Ashley Phosphate Road, police say.

Instead of slowing down, the driver accelerated toward Interstate 26. An incident report says the truck tried to squeeze between two cars that were stopped at a traffic light, damaging the side of one of the cars.

The truck got onto the interstate at Ashley Phosphate and then exited onto Rivers Avenue at speeds reaching 75 mph, the report says.

The chase continued onto NAD Road, Redbank Road and then Harbor Lake Drive. The report says the suspect then drove through the Spring Hill Apartments grounds and attempted to turn back onto Harbor Lake Drive when he lost control of the vehicle, causing it to slide into a ditch.

The suspect was taken into custody without incident.

Andra Robinson, 25, of Universal Circle in St. Stephen is charged with possession of a concealed weapon, possession of cocaine and failure to stop for blue lights, according to police.
