PICKENS -- Authorities say a man with a lengthy criminal record is accused of threatening to shoot the Pickens County sheriff.

Deputies said Tuesday 53-year-old Teddy Austin Arnold was charged with threatening the life of a public official and unlawful use of a telephone.

Authorities say Arnold called county dispatchers early on Nov. 24 and said Sheriff David Stone was going to get shot "for turning against the Klan to turn Nazi."

The call was traced to a Greenville hotel. Authorities say they don’t know why Arnold threatened Stone.

Arnold was being held Tuesday in the Greenville County jail on unrelated property damage and disorderly conduct charges. It wasn’t known if he had an attorney.

His 144-page arrest record lists numerous charges in both Carolinas and Florida, including burglary and kidnapping.
