

Sue Scott
Sue McCutchen Scott, 65, of Columbia, passed away peacefully at her brother’s home in Columbia surrounded by her family on February 21, 2020.
The funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Shannon Bullion, were held Monday, February 24, 2020, at the Shandon United Methodist Church of Columbia. Burial, directed by Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, followed at the Sandy Bay Cemetery of Cades, presided by Mr. Rion Cobb.
Ms. Scott was born February 10, 1955, in Kingstree, the oldest daughter of Barbara Duke McCutchen and the late Edsel McCutchen. She graduated from Towers High School in Atlanta in 1973. Sue worked several jobs during her life but upon moving back to Columbia she found her true calling when she began work at Satchel Ford Elementary School. She was a beloved member of the office staff for over 12 years. She was a member of Shandon United Methodist Church and a faithful participant in the Acts 2:21 Sunday school class.
Survivors are: her mother, Barbara Duke McCutchen of Columbia; two brothers, Eddie McCutchen of Grayson, Georgia; and Kevin McCutchen (Rami) of Columbia; and one sister, Amy McCutchen Meetze (Joley) of Columbia.
Pallbearers were Monty Dixon, Andy Walsh, Zac Filakosky, Chad McCutchen, Knox McCutchen, and Rion Cobb.

M. Wayne Tisdale
Melvin Wayne “Monkey” Tisdale, 63, husband of Katherene “Kat” Warren Tisdale, died Tuesday, February 18, 2020, surrounded by family at home in Kingstree.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 21, 2020, in the chapel at Williamsburg Funeral Home. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at Tisdale Cemetery.
Mr. Tisdale was born December 26, 1956, in Williamsburg County, the son of the late Elton and Anna Belle Locklear Tisdale. He was a graduate of Kingstree Senior High School and attended Williamsburg Technical College. He worked at Colonial Rubber and Firestone and was a farmer.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, are: one son, Ryan Tisdale (Ashton); one daughter, Meagan Best (Pressley) of Columbia; his beloved dog Blanche; and one brother, Neil Tisdale of Kingstree.

Lillie Washington
Mrs. Lillie Peterson Washington, 53, of Kingstree, died Thursday, February 13, 2020, at MUSC-Florence of Florence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Barry McFadden, were held Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at the St. Michael United Methodist Church of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the churchyard cemetery.
Mrs. Washington was born May 18, 1966, in Kingstree, the daughter of Roosevelt Peterson and Leila “Anna” Poinsette Peterson. A nephew, Keeron McElveen, and a sister-in-law, Angalese Washington Davis, preceded her in death. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated from Kingstree High School in 1984. Upon graduation, she moved to Opa-locka, Florida and began her career working with children and youth. For over 18 years, Miami Gardens Parks and Recreation employed her. While there, she served in different capacities ranging from recreation supervisor to activity coordinator for six different sites. She also worked for many years with the YMCA after-school program at Norland Elementary School in Miami, Florida. At an early age, she attended St. Michael United Methodist Church. While in Florida, she attended Panorama Christian Center in Hialeah, Florida, where she devoted much time to the children’s ministry, which led to the establishment of a child development center. She was also a part of the hospitality ministry. When she returned to Kingstree, she volunteered many hours with the Williamsburg County Recreation Department and served as the Summer Program Coordinator where she was involved with recreational sports: football, basketball, and baseball. She was also a Program Coordinator for Way Makers Community Center’s Summer Enrichment Program. She was employed as a substitute teacher at Kingstree Senior High School and worked with Graphics and Designs Department. She later became an instructional assistant at Kingstree Middle Magnet School of the Arts. Twice a week, she provided activities for Masterminds, an after-school program.
She was an awesome coordinator, supporter, and great at assisting with budget management. She used her talents and gifts to assist Total Praise Dancers of Kingstree as an Assistant Manager and as a Production/Stage Manager with Good Time Productions. She also played a prominent role in the growth and success of Flawless Creations, Designs, and Events and ensured that every program and/or event was a success. She loved to assist local children and youth with school projects and would work with them at the Williamsburg County Library in Kingstree. She also supported other organizations within the community, far too many to mention. If there was something going on in the community involving youth and children, she was there.
Survivors, in addition to her parents of Kingstree, are: her husband, Gregory E. “Cheese” Washington of the home; a child she reared as her own, Camille Sainvil of Miami, Florida; two biological brothers, Jimmy Peterson (Catherine) of Myrtle Beach; and Roy Lee Peterson of Opa-locka, Florida; four biological sisters, Carolyn Epps (Clement) and Roslyn Peterson, both of Kingstree; the Rev. Shirley Gordon (Enrique) of Orangeburg; and Jenny Wilburn (Roy) of Miramar, Florida; her father-in-law, Eugene Washington of Kingstree; a sister-in-law, Eugina Niles of Irmo; a brother-in-law, Mark Davis of Columbia; one non-biological brother, Ivan Wineglass of Bellevue, Nebraska; one of four non-biological sisters, Sadie Moyd of Kingstree; and three children who were near and dear to her, Tyosho Curtis-Dove (David), Michael Curtis, and Michelle Curtis-Pringle.
Helen McCollough
Margaret Helen Lee McCollough, 89, widow of Wilmot Salters McCollough, Jr., died Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at her home in Salters.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 23, 2020, at Union Presbyterian Church. Burial, directed by Williamsburg Funeral Home, followed at the church cemetery.
Mrs. McCollough was born September 11, 1930, in Kingstree, the daughter of the late Joe Douglas Lee and Edna Camilla Thornhill Lee. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and was the longtime bookkeeper at W.S. McCollough and Sons, Inc. in Salters. She was a former member of The Kingstree Garden Club and was a volunteer at Williamsburg Memorial Hospital for many years. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church, where she served in The Leila Salters Circle. A grandson, Jonathan McCollough, and five siblings, Lucille Ballentine McElveen, Magdalene Wilder Bushardt, W.D. Lee, Clinton Lee, and Colin Lee, preceded her in death.
Survivors are: one daughter, Mary Elizabeth “Betsy” Yager (John) of Mobile, Alabama; one son, Wilmot S. “Mot” McCollough, III (Paula) of Sumter; a dear sister-in-law, Faye Petrovitz; a granddaughter, Margaret Maree Schottler (Jeremy) of Vienna, Virginia; and two great-grandchildren.

Jean Stewart
Funeral services for Jean Cooper Stewart, conducted by the Rev. J. Jeannette Cooper, were held Saturday, February 22, 2020, at the Bethesda United Methodist Church of Lake City. Burial, directed by Dimery and Rogers Funeral Home, followed at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Stewart died Monday, February 17, 2020. She was born April 9, 1945, in Cades, the daughter of the late Timothy Cooper and Retha Thomas Cooper. She was educated in the Marion and Charleston School Districts, graduating from Burke High School in Charleston in 1963, where she played the clarinet in the marching band and orchestra. After high school, she traveled to Orangeburg, to attend Claflin College, where she majored in Social Science, became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, and was named “Best Dressed.” She graduated from Claflin in 1967. She earned her master’s degree in Counseling from the University of South Carolina. She was always an active member of her community. She was a teacher and a high school guidance counselor in Aiken County for 34 years. She retired from North Augusta High School in 2001. She was a member of the 2nd Providence Baptist Church in North Augusta. Bethesda United Methodist Church was her first love. Bethesda was a steadfast guide for her.
Survivors are: her husband, Arthur Stewart of North Augusta; two children, Demetrius Tyrone Stewart of North Augusta; and Deirdra Minon Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; one son-law, Darren Williams of Atlanta, Georgia; one daughter-in-law, Ellen Carlson of North Augusta; her mother-in-law, Christine Stewart of North Augusta; four sisters, Velva Cooper and Flora Shaw, both of Kingstree; the Rev. Jeannette Cooper of Florence; and Sandra Mack of Atlanta, Georgia; one granddaughter; and one great-grandson.
Lakavis Harrison
Funeral services for Lakavis Antwan Harrison, conducted by Bro. Victor Carter, were held Saturday, February 22, 2020, at the Greater Faith Outreach Ministries of Florence, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home.
Mr. Harrison died February 11, 2020. He was born June 16, 1986, the son of Julia Ethel Harrison Allen and Randy Brown. He received his formal education from West Florence High School in Florence.
Survivors are: his mother, Mrs. Julia Ethel Harrison Allen (Bobby) of Coward; his father, Randy Brown of Florence; his grandfather, Edward Harrison of Florence; two brothers, Myron Harrison (Keiosha) and Perry Brown of Florence; three cousins he cherished as brother and sisters, Clifford Price, Shavonda Carter (Victor) and Tia Vanderh, all of Florence; and two special cousins, Shavon Simpson and Wendy Kale.
Joann Dukes
Funeral services for Joann “Tar” and “Sister” Dukes, conducted by the Rev. Oline Hendrix, were held Friday, February 21, 2020, at the St. Mark AME Church of Kingstree. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the St. Mark AME Church Cemetery of Kingstree.
Ms. Dukes died Monday, February 17, 2020. She was born June 15, 1950, in Kingstree, the daughter of the late Edward and Mamie Ervin Dukes. She attended and graduated from St. Mark High School. She was employed by various hotels in Myrtle Beach, retiring from Breakers Hotel and Resort. She was a member of St. Mark AME Church, where she was a member of the Missionary Society, the Senior Choir, and the Trustee Board. Two siblings, Laurie Ann Dukes and Daniel Dukes, preceded her in death.
Survivors are: four sisters, Mary McCray, Para Scott and Mae Frances Scott, all of Kingstree; and Unaree Schafee of West Palm Beach, Florida; four brothers, Edward Dukes, Jr. and Jerome Dukes (Martha), both of Andrews; Frankie Dukes (Sharon) of New Castle, Delaware; and Kim Dukes (Annie) of Summerville; a nephew reared as a brother, Stacey Dukes (Dexavier) of Columbia; a sister-in-law, Sandra Garey-Dukes of Suttons; eight cousins she loved like sisters and brothers, Shirley Jones, Georgia Shaw, Alberta Washington, Tomasena Cooper, Ruth Gibson, James Dukes, Lillie Nesmith and Jannie Snow; one she loved like a daughter, Gracie Anderson; and one she loved as a granddaughter, Patricia Major.
Willie Palmer
Funeral services for Willie Joe “June” or “June Bug” Palmer, conducted by the Rev. Clyde Henryhand, were held Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at the St. Mark AME Church of Bonneau. Burial, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home, followed at the St. Mark AME Church Cemetery of Bonneau.
Mr. Palmer died Wednesday, February 12, 2020, in North Charleston. He was born March 11, 1947, in Bonneau, the son of Annie Mae Bennett and the late Joseph Bennett, Sr. He was educated in the public schools of Berkeley County. He was a 1967 graduate of Russellville High School. He worked as a welder and a construction worker for several years until he retired. He also drove a van to pick up children on Sunday for 10 years. He was a member of Greater St. Mark African Methodist Episcopal Church, where he was a Class Leader, Trustee and a member of the Financial Committee. Two brothers, James Bennett and Albert Bennett, and a daughter, Loretta Robinson, preceded him in death.
Survivors, in addition to his mother of Bonneau, are: his wife, Willie Mae Palmer of Bonneau; one son, Winfred Robinson (Wintress) of Bonneau; six brothers, Joseph Bennett, Jr. (Elouise), Leroy Bennett, and James Campbell, all of Bonneau; Walter Lee Bennett (Patrice) of Jacksonville, Florida; Nathaniel Bennett (Iesha) of Gastonia, North Carolina; and Kevin Bennett (Carmella) of Santee; six sisters, Viola Harris of Bonneau; Bertha Lee Wright (James), Mary Lee McHoney, Annie Ruth Bowens (Michael) and Rhunnett Nelson (William), all of Bonneau; and Claressa Shirah (Joseph) of St. Stephen; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Randolph Pasley
Funeral services for Randolph “Randy” Pasley, conducted by the Rev. Kelvin T. Brown, were held Wednesday, February 19, 2020, at the Clauddie Henryhand Memorial Chapel of Kingstree, directed by Henryhand Funeral Home.
Mr. Pasley died Friday, February 14, 2020, at his residence in Florence. He was born October 31, 1950, in New York, the son of the late Edlena Pasley. He was raised in New York, where he also received his education. After graduation, he served our country in the United States Marine Corps from June 1969 to June 1973.
Survivors are: his wife, Laura Mae Pasley of Salters; two daughters, Sarah Lynn Pasley and Lakeysia Pasley-McDonald of Austin, Texas; one son, Lorenzo Brewington of Hemingway; five stepchildren, Laura Bradley of Jacksonville, Florida; Tony Dozier and Tarsha McCrea (Maurice), both of Columbia; and Debra Dozier and Nathaniel Dozier, both of Salters; his mother-in-law, Betty Bradley of Salters; three sisters, Francine, Pamela and Velma Pasley; and 17 step grandchildren.
Mary McBride
Mrs. Mary Cooper McBride, 97, of Salters, died Sunday, February 16, 2020, at the Heritage Nursing Home of Florence.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Joe E. Lockwood and the Rev. Samuel B. Cooper, were held Friday, February 21, 2020, at the St. Mary African Methodist Episcopal Church of Salters. Burial, directed by Redmond-Richardson Funeral Home, followed at the Florence National Cemetery of Florence.
Mrs. McBride was born February 3, 1923, in Kingstree, the daughter of the late James J. Cooper and Lottie Anna Barr Cooper. She was educated in the public schools of Williamsburg County and graduated from Tomlinson High School in 1941. She matriculated at Claflin University of Orangeburg in 1943 and graduated in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Studies. She was a member of St. Mary African Methodist Episcopal Church, where she was a class leader, steward, and sang on the choir for many years. She began her career at St. Lawrence Community School in Salters, where she taught in the public schools of Williamsburg County for over 37 years. She received several tributes as Mother of the Year for the oldest mother in the church. She was the church historian. She also received a plaque in recognition of her faithfulness, commitment, and outstanding dedication to the Women’s Missionary Society for 50 years of dedicated service at St. Mary African Methodist Episcopal Church. After receiving this award, the Women’s Missionary Society was renamed in her honor to the McBride-Burgess Women’s Missionary Society.
Survivors are: one son, Gregory McBride (Denise) of Timmonsville; five sisters, Phyllis Cooper and Geraldine Reynolds (Alphonso), both of Martinsville, Virginia; Victoria Goldsberry of Greeleyville; Almead Velious of Newark, New Jersey; and Jimetta Milligan of The Woodlands, Texas; one brother, the Rev. Samuel B. Cooper (Olivia) of Kingstree; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
